Banshees Bar presents 4ZZZ and HeyDay present: The Bremer Beat at Banshees

Heyday and 4ZZZ take over Banshees Bar and Art Space with bands from 80's & 90's Ipswich for a night of nostalgia and Zed favourites as part of 4ZZZ's 50th birthday celebrations. Tickets HERE

So what was the Bremer Beat? Anyone reading Time Off Magazine in the late 1970's and early 1980's would be reading about venue's such as: The Curry Shop, The 279 Club, Hotel Brisbane, Sally's, Sensoria, Pinocchio's, The Outpost, The Tube Club, The Love Inn, Amyl's Nitespace and 4ZZZ Joint Efforts at Qld. Uni. to name a few. Part of that musical era was what became known as the Bremerbeat, a group of bands from Ipswich.
These bands included, The Toy Watches, Vacant Rooms, The Pinups, The Colours, The Skeletones, The Lemmings and the Pits to name a few.

Most members attended the original Bremer State High School at Silkstone, (named after the river which winds its way through 'the switch'), and many members played in each other's bands.

The Colours
Known for their paisley shirts and a distinctive Rickenbacker sound, The Colours return to their home town to headline The Bremer Beat's takeover of Banshees.
The Colours' original lineup of school friends - Ian Davies - guitar, Andrew Palmer - guitar, Mitchell Kunde - vocals, Russell Sky - bass, Dave Harden - drums are all back together for the show. The Colours received airplay on 4ZZZ in the 1980's with their much loved song, 'Blue Shirt', which was only recorded and released on LCMR Records in 2022. They reformed for the 'Return To White Chairs 3' show in 2021 and were met with rapturous applause. Heyday is thrilled to have The Colours headlining the show.

Splat Acrobat
Splat Acrobat released two albums and an EP between 1990 and 1994. Alternative indie guitar band with a large local following on the Brisbane music scene in the early 90s. Inspired by The Velvet Underground, REM, The Pixies and Audrey Hepburn, Splat Acrobat bring it all together in their distinctive live sound. A band with strong Ipswich connections, Splat played some of their first shows at the old Murphy's Hotel.

The Heydaisies
A supergroup of Ipswich and Brisbane women have formed especially for the event. Featuring Michelle Bowden (Batswing Saloon, Gravelrash, Chopper Division), Ildi Putnoki (Post No Bills, Blood Party), Alana Mannix (Kim Salmon, Koko Uzi, Cross Town Collective), Kristin Black (The Double Happiness, Fugitive Microbes, Boo Tree) and many special guests including Adele Pickvance, Lisa Kunde, Heather Anderson and more! The Heydaisies will perform many 4ZZZ hits from the 80's.
