About the Show
The Neon Signs are returning to light up Banshees for the first time since their sell out album launch in 2024. Joining them for this not to be missed show will be June Low and The Highs and Clare Cowley and the Flames. Three of Brisbane’s finest independent acts delivering a refined blend of indie rock and alternative country.
About the Bands
Brought up on a diet of 80s indie-guitar bands, 60s pop and sad AM radio hits, The Neon Signs’ distinctive blend of Brizcore jangle and dark country illuminates the depths of human emotions - loss, uncertainty and wishful thinking. Following the success of their 2024 debut album “Empty
Room” and a #12 on the 4ZZZ Hot 100 for their single “One Kiss is Fatal”, The Neon Signs will be celebrating their new upcoming single “Burning Sand”. The new single sees Simon Welchman’s surf beats and Craig Covacich’s catchy riffs set the scene for songwriter and guitarist Frank Henry’s cautionary tale. The Neon Signs will be joined on stage by Melbourne guitarist Brendan Callen on bass and Mocara Kelly fresh from a tour of Ireland on violin and vocals. National touring outfit Clare Cowley and The Flames, featuring Julia Bates (Harmonies), Skye McNicol (Violin) and Kathryn McKee (Cello), accentuate the depth in Clare’s songwriting. Their arrangements speak to audiences from the intimate corners of the globe to the bustling city, both on her vinyl album, “Desire Notes” and in their live performances. A Qld Music Award nominee in 2024, Clare Cowley is a captivating performer and musical storyteller grounded in folk and country music traditions. Clare’s new EP, “Rock & Druins” features pictorial ballad, “Sitar Singer” placed #99 in the 4zzz Hot 100. Clare’s third full length album, “Synthetic Lover”, recorded with The Flames, is due for release in 2026. Listen to Clare Cowley at Music | Clare Cowley
June Low and The Highs are a Brisbane indie-rock four-piece with an impressive musical pedigree. Emma White’s powerful vocals are perfectly complemented by Brian Mann’s ability to capture the iconic indie guitar sound, together with Sean Clift’s driving beats and Jane Elliot’s mesmerizing bass and electric cello. Their 2018 album “Heart Gallop” is a classic Brisbane independent music release, with the band receiving a Highly Commended in the Blues and Roots category for their song “Charles” by the Queensland Music Awards in 2019. “Hotel Hex”, the edgy single off their most recent album received widespread airplay globally, striking a chord with audiences post-covid. With memorable live performances, their music has energy and emotion, combining rawness with translucent beauty. This will be one the last chances to see the band before they enter the studio to record their fourth album which promises to deliver more twists and turns than a VC Andrews novel.
