Banshees Bar presents The Salty Sirens Present: Sue Ferrers

A night of sea shanties and enchanting folk

Roll on down to Banshees Bar for a night of sea shanties and enchanting folk with Sue Ferrers (trio) and The Salty Sirens.

Lovers of swell sea shanties and rollicking singalongs, The Salty Sirens are Kristy Capstanfield (vocals and accordion) and Elyse Fishpatrick (vocals and whale facts). Since 2021, they have been rocking boats the country wide with their flavour of sea shanties, SHE shanties and sea songs with a modern, queer twist, and now these sapphic sailors are sailing into Ipswich to lead you on a musical journey through traditional and modern nautical folk song, tales of shipwork, daring adventure, defiance and debauchery on the high seas. Hoist the anchor and limber up those sealegs - these really aren't your grandpa's sea shanties!
The Salty Sirens are proud to present their musical matey of nyckelharpa renown, Sue Ferrers!

Australian Folk Music Award Finalist in 2023 and Queensland Music Award Finalist 2024, Sue Ferrers plays the rare but hauntingly beautiful Swedish nyckelharpa, or keyed-fiddle, an instrument dating back to the Middle Ages. After spending the last two decades releasing albums, playing intimate concerts in churches and touring stadiums and festivals throughout Europe, including Kieler Woche, Amphi Festival in Cologne, and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Sue has returned to home soil, sharing her music that is “spellbinding and spherical” and “in its simple beauty can go straight to your heart and and will leave you yearning for more”. (Folker Magazine, Germany) and released her third studio album, “only in the darkness can you see the stars” this year. Joined by the driving rhythmic guitar, and the sonorous double bass, Sue will present an eclectic potpourri of European folk melodies, from the Sephardic Jewish music of Spain to Scandinavian Polskas and the reverie of the Scottish Highlands, taking the audience on a magic carpet ride to exotic, faraway lands of times gone by.
