Sarah x Isabella (she/her) is a Brisbane-based visual artist. Initially self-taught, she graduated from the Queensland College of Arts in 2016, majoring in jewellery and small objects, and print making. Specialising in linocut, her practice is informed by the figurative distortion and bold linework of German expressionist Max Beckmann, and the metal and death metal imagery of Vince Locke.
Disintegration by Sarah x Isabella is a group of linocut artwork that explores the process of breaking oneself down to rebuild. Her work depicts symbols of mythologies that explore themes of transformation and rebirth. The artist seeks guidance and personal strength from mythological archetypes such as Inanna and Isis.
Sarah x Isabella's artistic practice serves as a motif for this transformation. As a linocut artist, she repetitively carves out material to create something new and interesting that was once hidden beneath the linoleum. This process becomes ritual, with the concept of her work repeated throughout every stroke.
